Dacia sales across Europe (EU and the EFTA) have increased by 13 percent this May, while the automotive producer’s market share stayed at 2.8 percent, according to statistics provided by the Association of European Automotive Constructors.

Dacia registrations stood at over 37,000 units last month, an increase over the same month of the previous year, when some 32,700 cars were registered.

Over the first five months of the year results were once more positive for Dacia in terms of sales, going up 4.8 percent on the year, though its market share decreased slightly to 2.7 percent, from 2.8 percent registered the previous year.

Registrations were higher over the mentioned period, going up to over 176,500 units, as compared to 168,500 Dacia cars registered between January-May 2015.

Volkswagen also reported advances in sales across Europe, both in May 2016 y-o-y (up 8.8 percent) and over the first five months (up 4.9 percent). Romanians, all the while, seem to prefer second hand Volkswagen cars, registering some 22,900 units in May.

Dacia was taken over by Renault in 1999. Relaunched in 2004 with Logan, Dacia has become a well-known player on the European car market.
