Copyright contributions will be retained and paid by employers starting September 13, as the Labor Minister announced on September 8.

“The most important aspect that we have corrected and will function starting Monday is the one connected with the stopping at the source. After the ordinance is published, the person making the payment will also deal with the declaration and the acquittal of social insurance contributions for copyright income”, Ioan Botis, the Labor Minister declared, as quoted by Mediafax.

Botis also stated that the ones obtaining copyright income occasionally will not have to pay social insurance contributions.  The minister explained that employees who receive salaries and also receive copyright benefits will pay insurance for the supplementary income, on a calculation basis limited to five monthly gross salaries. The same system applies to those benefiting solely of repetitive copyright income.

The declarations regarding the situation of employees benefiting of copyright income will be made by employers on a monthly basis, by the 25th of the given month.
