Competition Council investigates 25 banks and non-banking financial institutions and leasing companies

Competition Council investigates 25 banks and non-banking financial institutions and leasing companies, as well as professional associations and unions in financial services, and it is one of the biggest actions of the institution.

The investigations were developed during two sessions, regarding possible sensitive commercial information exchanges between competitive companies on financial leasing market and consume loan, as well as possible coordination of commercial policies of price fixing.

There were several concomitant investigations at Bancpost, Unicredit Bank, Raiffeisen Bank, Banca Comercială Romana, BCR Leasing IFN, BRD Sogelease IFN, Raiffeisen Leasing IFN, Unicredit Leasing Corporation IFN, Viva Credit IFN, ALD Automotive, Arval Service Lease Romania, Autotechnica Fleet Services, BCR Fleet Management, BT Operational Leasing, Leaseplan Romania, Porsche Mobility, Unicredit Leasing Fleet Management, Finmedia, Association of Operational Leasing Companies, Banking Union Council in Romania, Financial Companies Association in romania, Financial Services Unions Federation in Romania, Leasing and Credit Union in Romania and Non Banking Financial InstitutionCredit Union.

„We constantly monitor this market and we have been preparing the start of investigation for a while and the information supplied in August by one of the investigated parties had an important role,” said Bogdan Chiritoiu, president of Competition Council.

The second investigation refers also to a possible coordination of commercial policies by fixing the price and/or sharing the market through a coordination through a sensitive commercial information exchanges between competitive companies on financial leasing market and their affiliated service in Romania.

The unannounced investigations are authorized by the Appeal Court of Bucharest.

The documents taken during the investigations are analyzed by the Romanian Competition Council.
