European Commissioner Corina Cretu has approved investments close to EUR 200 million from cohesion funds in fast railway connections in Romania, from Coslariu and Simeria.
The works will allow the trains to circulate between 120-160 km/h, reducing the travel period between the two localities by approximately 45 minutes. The works will be finished in 2020.
„The modernization of this railway line will stimulate the economic competitiveness of the regions from the center and Western Romania and will contribute to the protection of environment, improving concretely the life quality of the Romanian citizens,” said Cretu.
Thus, 868,000 persons will benefit from faster connections between the two mentioned regions, especially the citizens from Alba and Hunedoara.
