Commission of Ethics’ verdict: PM has plagiarized

The Commission of Ethics under the Bucharest University passed the verdict that prime-minister Victor Ponta plagiarized in his PhD thesis.

According to the commission, one third of the PM’s thesis is copied, “by integrally inserting blocks of text, lines or reversing the blocks of text in report to the sources.”

In response, PM Ponta said the decision of the Commission of Ethics is a political one, and that the only decision he will acknowledge is that of the National Authority for Scientific Research.

“According to the Education Law passed by Mr. Funeriu, the only acknowledged decision is that of the National Authority of Scientific Research. That commission has already passed its definitive sentence, which says no plagiarism took place. The Faculty of Law refused to break the law, and what is decided today is a political decision. As proof, I was not called to express my point of view. Attention! This is the first time I have not been called, and this commission has never functioned before. It is an ad-hoc commission gathered especially for me,” said Ponta.
