The fashion segment attracts the most retailers, according to an analysis by CBRE of the new companies coming to Romania in the past 18 months. Over 30 brands opening stores during this period were surveyed. According to the study 61 of the brands are active in fashion retail, 6 percent in the food industry, 19 percent in the food& restaurant segment, and 13 percent in various other segments such as fitness or bricolage. As far as their operation mode is concerned, retailers tend to use franchisors as over 70 percent of the surveyed brands act this way, and only 30 percent decided to enter the market directly. Retailers occupying over 1,000 sqm of sales space have entered the market directly, while surfaces under 500 sqm are mostly taken up by franchises.
Some of the new brands entering the market in 2010 were Emporio Armani, Gucci, Coccinelle, Gerard Darel, Moschino, Back Werk, Pure Fitness, M.A.C, Brioche Doree, Camaieu, SIX.
