The Romanian subsidiary of French retailer Carrefour has opened two more Carrefour Express proximity stores in Bucharest, thus taking the network to 19 units. The two stores are located in the Obor and Drumul Taberei neighborhoods.
Carrefour Romania opened its first local Carrefour Express in October 2011 following a franchise agreement with local meat producer and retailer Angst.
At present, the French retailer runs 108 stores in Romania, 24 hypermarkets, 65 supermarkets and 19 proximity stores. After in 2012 it focused on expanding its supermarket chain by opening about 20 new stores, this year Carrefour plans to resume hypermarket expansion by adding a 9,700 sqm outlet to its network.
The hypermarket should be opened in Bucharest in the third quarter of 2013. It will be located on the grounds of a future shopping center developed by New Europe Property Investments (NEPI) on the former Vulcan industrial platform. The company already runs 8 hypermarkets in the capital.
