Hotel owners are looking to turn Bucharest into a winter destination, according to the Romanian Tourism Owners Federation (FPTR) quoted by Mediafax. “The target is to reach, within five years, 50,000 tourists in December, coming especially for these programs,” said Dragos Raducan, the vice-president of the Romanian Tourism Owners Federation.
Hotels in Bucharest are planning tariff cuts of 50 percent for the December weekends and the owners say they are negotiating with museums lower fees. A tour of bars in Bucharest’s Old Town is also under works.
According to Raducan, a two-night weekend with breakfast included is set to cost throughout December RON 159 at a two-star hotel and RON 259 at a four-star hotel.
Among other attractions in Bucharest in December there will be a Christmas fair organized at Romexpo between December 1st – 24th, where over 200 exhibitors will sell season products.
FPTR also plans to organize in December a walking tour of Bucharest, to be called “Discover Bucharest walking.”
Bucharest is the Romanian city attracting most tourists: 1.32 million last year, out of which 600,000 were foreigners. Out of these, more than half are business people. It is followed by Constanta  (436,500 tourists), Brasov (396,300 tourists), Timisoara (224,400 tourists) and Sibiu (222, 800 tourists).
