Bucharest’s Sector 5 court decided on Thursday to approve the request for conditional release by media mogul Dan Voiculescu. The decision is not final.
Present in court, a representative of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) argued against Voiculescu’s request, saying there is no proof that the scientific papers bearing his name were actually written by Voiculescu. According to the DNA representative, Voiculescu took advantage of the legal flaws.
There are 11 scientific papers to the name of Dan Voiculescu.
On 4 August 2014 the Bucharest Court of Appeal sentenced Voiculescu to 10 years in prison for his role in the fraudulent privatisation of the Institute for Food Research (ICA).
