Over 170 poets from 27 countries across 4 continents are going to take the stage at the most powerful edition of the International Poetry Festival in Bucharest, which is going to be held between September 11-17.

Next month, the capital city will host the 13th edition of the Bucharest International Poetry Festival (FIPB), which is known and followed by both the community of writers and poetry enthusiasts, becoming today the most significant event of its kind in Romania and one of the most closely watched in Europe.

The program of this year’s edition includes a rich list of participants: over 170 poets from 27 countries across 4 continents, including Albania, Algeria, Austria, Bolivia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cuba, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, North Macedonia, Morocco, Montenegro, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Republic of Moldova, Spain, Turkey, the Netherlands, and Uruguay.

The theme of this year’s Bucharest International Poetry Festival is placed under the well-known paraphrase from Cicero: inter arma silent musae? – an ambitious exercise to celebrate the power of poetry and, by extension, literature, and a plea for the eternity of the muses who have the power to inspire the arts and free expression, even in the turbulent and challenging times of today, in which, for the past two years, we have heard the echo of a war on the northern border of the country.

“I am convinced that literature lovers will find in the diverse and ambitious program moments and events to satisfy all tastes, from the youngest readers to the experienced ones, from the harshest critics to those for whom literature is a modus vivendi or those who can now find themselves in it, declared Ioan Cristescu, the Director of the National Museum of Romanian Literature, the organizer of the event.

The festival includes almost 50 events, in different themes and formats: from meetings with poets, public readings, debates, roundtable discussions, colloquia, poetry marathons, and performances, to theater shows, film screenings, concerts, exhibitions, and events dedicated to professionals.

Poetry enthusiasts in the capital are invited to take part in the events of FIPB 2023 in 13 well-known cultural spaces in Bucharest: the “Carol” Central University Library, the National Museum of Romanian Literature – headquarters at 8 Nicolae Crețulescu Street, the National Museum of Romanian Literature – Headquarters on Calea Griviței 64-66, Cărturești Verona, the “Friedrich Schiller” Cultural Center, ARCUB, Kyralina Bookstore, Cotroceni Museum, the Cervantes Institute in Bucharest, BMB, the “Tudor Arghezi – Mărțișor” Memorial House, Londohome, the Romanian Playwrights’ Theater.

Moreover, the organizers have resumed a well-known and beloved project among poetry lovers: the National Poetry Book Fair, an event that highlights the most recent and important volumes of poetry. Audience participation in the events of the Bucharest International Poetry Festival is free of charge. The complete program of the project can be found on the official website.
