The online platform BRIO.ro, which provides standardized testing tools for pupils in grades 1-12, has been launched on June 1, during the International Children’s Day.

Dragos Iliescu, PhD and professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Education sciences, has worked in the last four years at this project. He is also the founder of TestCentral, the editor of scientific psychological tests in Romania.

The co-founders of the BRIO system are emeritus professor Thomas Oakland and Brandient agency. The project is supported by The Mathematics Gazette, through Radu Gologan, the coordinator of the Romanian Olympic team for the International Mathematics Olympiad.

BRIO uses the same science and methodology such the international tests GMAT, GRE and SAT, but it is tailored for the Romanian curriculum.

For the mathematics tests, more than 20,000 items have been used in the development stage, which required more than 200,000 hours of calibration through the testing of 60,000 pupils.

By the end of this year, the BRIO system will provide testing for the Romanian. Next year, the developers want to launch tests for chemistry and physics.

“The robust data through which the performance of a child can be compared with a standard or with the results of other children is critical. (…) BRIO is not a player in the Romanian educational sector, so it will contribute to the improvement of the education by making the competitive assessment system available for children, parents, professors and schools, so as to accelerate the performance in education,” said Iliescu.

BRIO will provide a free credit for testing for users registering in the first month of operation of the platform.
