Romania’s hydropower consumption went up by 7.4 percent to 4.1 million toe (tonnes of oil equivalent) in 2016 and represented 0.4 percent of the global consumption, according to the data of British Petroleum.
In the last 10 years, the highest hydropower consumption was registered in 2010 – 4.5 million toe, and in 2006 and 2014 when it amounted to 4.2 toe.
At global level, the hydropower consumption amounted to 910.3 million toe. The countries which consumed the last year the highest quantity were: China — 263.1 million toe, Canada — 87.8 million toe and Brasil — 81.7 million toe.
In the European Union, the hydropower consumption was 78.7 million, holding a share of 8.6 percent at global level.
