Bookster, the first platform to bring books closer to people, announces the reading trends for the summer of 2022.

Thus, if in June, July, and August of 2021, about 200,000 physical readings and digital media were borrowed, for a total of about 44 million pages read, the company expects an increase in appetite for reading, up to 50 million pages read, this year.

Just as last year, a greater proportion of IT companies will choose to provide employees with access to Bookster services in 2022. Currently, the company provides 113,000 valuable readings, including current resources, books, and articles in a variety of fields, to its 106,000 subscribers. Regardless of industry, an employee with access to Bookster borrows and reads more than 12 books and articles per year.

The most popular summer readings fall into the following categories: romance, behavioural psychology, and positive thinking, such as books on anxiety management, mindfulness, or meditation exercises. There is also a preference for biographies, travel, and mysteries. Local authors preferred by Romanians during the summer include: Andreea Săvulescu, Gaspar Gyorgy, Irina Binder, Alexandru Mitru, Dr. Mihaela Bilic, and Domnica Petrovai, while international authors include: Agnes Martin-Lugand, Fredrik Backman, Kristin Hannah, Robert T. Kiyosaki, and Jojo Moyes.

The holidays provide an opportunity for people to unwind and make plans to improve various aspects of their lives. This is also noticeable in the books they choose to read over the holidays. We believe that the interest in travelling will increase this year, and we have already seen an increase in the loans of readings that come with route ideas, personal stories of some explorers, or novels with the action taking place in a tourist destination. However, the current context maintains the need to manage negative feelings and books that support those who want to understand, meditate, and treat those around them with compassion, says Teodora Rădulescu, CEO of Bookster.

More and more Romanians recognize the value of reading, and for some of them, Bookster subscribers from over 1,000 businesses, summer is the time when they can read more. Thus, the most books borrowed by a subscriber in the three summer months was 30. The concentrated periods for book loans are divided into two segments: the beginning of the year, when Romanians set their reading resolutions for the New Year, and the holiday season. The summer, on the other hand, sees the greatest influx of loans.

This year, Bookster’s primary categories were those related to personal and professional development, particularly entrepreneurship, personal finance, stress management, self-knowledge, and leisure. In addition, as a result of the conflict in Ukraine, there was an increase in subscriber interest in the category of history books and historical fiction, which was also updated with new titles.
