BCR exceeded RON 5 billion worth of loans for infrastructure projects

BCR, which is controlled by Austrian Erste Group, exceeded the amount of RON 5 billion worth of loans for infrastructure projects developed by local public authorities in the 2005-2015 period.

The largest share of the funds was attracted for the rehabilitation of highway infrastructure, the counties roads, as well as urban roads that are in the responsibility of local authorities and BCR supported the rehabilitation of the latter with almost RON 2.6 billion. Another important projects category referred to the interventions dedicated to the life quality improvements: roads network between isolated communities, rehabilitations of schools and hospitals, social buildings construction, social assistance and care centers for people with disabilities, water infrastructure, drainage and waste management.

Almost RON 1 million represents co-financing of projects developed European funds affiliated to the operational programs that Romania got in 2007-2013 period, especially the Regional Operational Program and the Rural Development National Program. In addition, there was the Medium Operational Sectorial Program and the Trans-Boarders Cooperation Programs.

Ioana Gheorghiade, executive director in Public Sector and Infrastructure Financing within BCR, underlines that the strategic development for infrastructure helps attract/ keep the investors in Romania.

“If nothing is changed in this perspective, the investments will still focus on the capital and big cities with the qualified work force or in Western area with the logistic chain that had developed in this area with quick access to the Hungarian highways. Without an extension of the infrastructure, the interest of private companies will move to the external markets and the foreign investors will prefer Poland or Hungary, “ says Gheorghiade.

Regarding the social infrastructure, BCR has financed approximately RON 1.7 billion basically for schools and hospital rehabilitation and energy efficiency projects for local field and the historical sits rehabilitation.
