Romania wants more U.S. investments, but our country has to maintain its strong commitment to reinforcing the rule of law, the judiciary’s independence and fighting corruption, President Traian Basescu said on Wednesday, during the annual meeting with ambassadors accredited to Bucharest.
‘Romania wants more U.S. investments, with the Strategic Partnership providing the optimal framework to speed up the economic and commercial relations and increase investments. Such evolution would be in line with the constant upward evolution of the bilateral trade exchanges and would support the efforts aimed at restructuring and modernizing the Romanian economy. It is obviously impossible, I repeat, it is impossible and the recent message of the United States’ envoy said the same. Therefore, it is impossible to reach these objectives if Romania does not maintain its firm commitment to reinforcing the rule of law, the judiciary’s independence and fighting corruption,’ Basescu said, quoted by actmedia.eu.
According to the President, the relations with the U.S. have seen a constant and substantial evolution.
‘The consolidation of the Strategic Partnership with the United States, enshrined in the Joint Statement on the Strategic Partnership for the 21st century between Romania and the U.S., and adopted on September 13, 2011 in Washington is one of Romania’s top foreign policy objectives. In 2014, our objectives should target the improvement of the dimensions of the Strategic Partnership, especially the economic ones, so as to reach an excellence level of cooperation in the political-military and security field,‘ Basescu underlined.
