World No 1 Simona Halep showed no signs of fatigue in her fourth round match against World No 71 Simona Osaka, which she won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

Despite struggling with injury, Halep looked confident in her win against the talented Japanese player, who had pushed the Romanian player to three sets in their previous two meetings. Halep had defeated Osaka in Miami in 2016 and at the French Open in 2017.

“It was a great match,” Halep said after the match.

“I am really happy to be back in the quarter-finals. I didn’t expect this at the start of the tournament because of the injury.”

“The tournament has been a marathon for me. I am just trying to enjoy it and give everything.”

Halep will face the winner between the all-Czech encounter that sees sixth seed Karolina Pliskova take on 20th seed Barbora Strycova.
