A new edition of the “Rabla” programme has started today, for both individuals and companies, two months earlier than the 2017 session, with a budget of RON 133 million. The “Rabla Plus” extension will begin next week, with a budget of RON 120 million.

The Environment Ministry estimates that the 2018 financial allocation will cover the purchase of around 19,000 new vehicles on the Clasic version and 2,000 electric cars in the Plus version of the programme.

According to Environment minister Gratiela Gavrilescu, one of the significant novelties of this year’s session is that Rabla Classic allows minibuses to be scrapped for a financial award.

The scrapping bonus for the Rabla Clasic programme will stay at RON 6,500 in 2018 for each used car that is more than eight years old and is awarded for the purchase of a new car with a propulsion system that generates a maximum of 130 g of CO2/km. There are also possible extra bonuses for even more eco-friendly cars.

The minister also announced that for recharging stations for electric cars, the Environment Fund Administratoin has promoted a state assistance scheme for connecting cities or the national road network, which is awaiting the approval of the European Commission.

Also today, minister Gavrilescu rejected the recent speculations in the press about a new environmental tax possibly being introduced soon, and said that this will not happen in the near future. The press had reported that the tax would be around EUR 50 and 3,000. She added that a deadline for a new environmental tax has not been set yet, and that when the government will introduce one it will be based on realistic calculations that are comparable with what other EU member states are doing.
