The green cars sales tripled in Romania in the first six months of the year, reaching 982 units, compared with the same period of 2016, according to the Association of Cars Producers and Importers (APIA).
During January-June, the share of green cars in the total sales was 1.7 percent locally compared with the same period of 2016 and the electric cars sales increased by 197.1 percent, while the hybrid cars number went up by 218.1 percent.
At the same time, according to the source, in June there were 265 electric and hybrid cars sold, a growth by 56.08 percent compared with the previous month.
In the ranking of the most sold electric cars 100 percent, in the first six months of the year, on the first place is Mercedes-Benz, with 32 units, followed by BMW (29), Renault (12), Audi (8), Volkswagen and Volvo (5 units each), Mitsubishi and Porsche (4 each).
At the same time, most of the sales of hybrid cars in Romania were registered by Toyota (791 units), followed by Lexus (72), Kia (8) and Mercedes-Benz (2) from January until June.
The official statistics shows that the number of new electric and hybrid cars sold in Romania was 1,183 units in 2016, a growth by 138 percent compared with 2015.
