Telecom regulator ANCOM will start a selection process to attribute seven national licenses in the bandwidth 3.4-3.8 GHz, which allow access to fixed and mobile internet. The estimated price of a license is under EUR 3 million.
“The licenses will have as effect the growth in the penetration of broadband internet at national level and the development of the national radio communication infrastructure with a view to reducing the digital gap between urban and rural areas,” said ANCOM president Catalin Marinescu.
Three of the national licenses will be attributed in the 3.4-3.6 GHz bandwidth, while the remaining four will be in the 3.6- 3.8 GHz bandwidth.
The selection procedure will take place in two stages. During the first stage, applicants will forward their firm intention regarding acquiring a license in the 3.5 GHz and a license in the 3.7 GHz. The second stage will be the selection which will take place only if the number of applicants is higher than the number of available licenses.
If the number of applicants is lower or equal to the number of licenses, the licenses will be granted directly.
