The president of National Agency of Fiscal Administration (ANAF), Bogdan – Nicolae Stan, requested the analysis of the activity from the last year of the General Customs Agency and of the regional customs agencies, aiming to identify the causes that led to the increase in the illegal cigarettes traffic.

“The cigarettes smuggling leads to major losses in the national economy and the consolidated state budget is affected. We’ll intensify the actions against the illegal cigarettes traffic. At the same time, we’ll lead a verification operation of all the customs territorial offices, in order to take the legal measures for such cases,” said Stan in a press release.

According to the source, at the end of the verifications, the ANAF board will reveal the measures taken.

The cigarettes black market registered in 2016 an average level of 16.8 percent, a growth compared with the annual average from 2015, which was 16 percent, the most affected by the illegal trade being the North-Eastern area, according to a study made by a market research company.

The level from 2016 represents the highest annual average level since 2011 until now, according to the research company Novel Research.
