According to a new list of small companies and public institutions in debt to the state budget published by the government’s open data page, at the end of March there were almost 145,000 such companies with arrears of more than RON 10,000.
The total debt to the state budget by these taxpayers amounted to RON 77.11 billion, of which only 19 percent (RON 14.65 billion) can be recovered. Unrecoverable arrears are caused by the company’s entry into insolvency, special administration or bankruptcy.
Of the recoverable arrears some 44 percent (RON 6.47 billion) are certain to be reclaimed, the page shows, while the rest have an uncertain status due to various administrative measures.
According to specifications made on the page, taxpayers that have a suspended execution or planned payments within their judicial reorganization are not included on the list. Companies with outstanding VAT reimbursement are also exempt from inclusion on the list.
