Alfredo Seafood’s turnover went up by 45 percent in 2016, to EUR 16 million, from EUR 11 million in 2015. In 2017, the company aims to have a bigger impact on the consumer trends în Romania.

Romfood Trading is one of the main importers and distributors of fish and seafood in Romania and the creator of the Alfredo Seafood brand.

2016 was a good year for us, marked by significant achievements in what regards the new ranges of products promoted, but also at the level of improvements we implemented from a technologic and logistic point of view,” Mihai Cristian Darmanescu, Director General Romfood Trading said.

I am glad to also notice the growth trend of the entire fish and seafood market in Romania that manifests itself, constantly, in the past three years and which meant a 3 percent year-on-year increase. Although our country is situated, in terms of fish consumption, still way behind European leaders such as Spain, France or Italy, I am optimist that 2017 will bring us one step closer to fulfilling our market vision, so that Romanians have at least one fish-based meal a week!,” Darmanescu said.

According to company representatives, one of the most important investments of 2016, which will also continue in 2017, is the development if the ‘ultra fresh’ range of products, which reach shelves between 10 and 60 hours of being captured. The launch of this products meant, for Alfredo Seafood, the culmination of four years of research and development on this market segment.

Another achievement is the introduction in the large retail chains of luxury products that contain wild fish assortments, without glazing and polyphosphates, such as salmon, cod and zander, company representatives reveal. The challenge was represented, at this chapter, by the processing methods: the fish is prepared in just a few hours, either via the frozen on board or the frozen on shore methods and bear the label ‘fresh frozen.’
