12 candidates in local election race for Bucharest Town Hall

The Municipal Electoral Office (BEM) admitted 12 candidates for the Bucharest Town Hall, while for positions of adviser within the Bucharest General Council there were 588 applications admitted.

According to the final nominations published by BEM the following candidates were validated for the local elections: Bogdan Diaconu (PRU), Gabriela Firea (PSD + UNPR), Catalin Predoiu (PNL), Robert Turcescu (PMP), Daniel Barbu (ALDE), Nicusor Dan (USB ), Iulia Gorea-Costin (PNTCD), Mirel Amaritei (ProDemo), Niculae Neamtu (Republican Party), Petrica Dima (PSR), Adrian Severin (PDS) and Catalin Berenghi (independent).

Of the 500 for the adviser posts, 69 candidates were from ALDE, 69 from PDS, 69 from PMP, 37 from PER, 6 from PNTCD, 65 from UDMR, 69 from USB, 69 from PRU, 66 from PNL and 69 from the PSD+UNPR alliance.

The campaign for local elections will begin on Friday, May 6 and will end on June 4. With a budget of some RON 359.6 million, elections will include 18,616 polling stations and some 50,000 policemen, gendarmes and firefighters to insure safety. Voting will be open on June 5 between 7.00 and 21.00.
