Metropolitan Life, one of the most important players in the Romanian life insurance market, reconfirms its commitment to protecting and preserving the environment with the initiative to create a much-needed green haven with 10,000 trees planted in the South-Muntenia region. As a trusted partner for Romanians, Metropolitan Life prioritizes a positive impact on the community it belongs to, actively contributing to a safer and more sustainable future.

The project, supported with a grant of EUR 52,000 from the MetLife Foundation, aimed at planting 5,000 seedlings by hand in the Ploiești miniature forest on an area of 1,200 square meters and planting another 5,000 seedlings by machine in Putineiu Commune, Giurgiu County, to be cared for 2 years.

The action, which took place in the West Municipal Park in Ploiesti, brought together 80 Metropolitan Life volunteers from the Bucharest headquarters and financial consultants from the Ploiesti-based agency, together with 16 volunteers from the NGO Children’s Forest Association, who participated in the planting aimed at mitigating the impact of climate change and beautifying the green space.

In line with the concept behind the miniature forest in Ploiesti, the Metropolitan Life initiative aimed to plant 3 seedlings per square meter and 7 different species per 3 square meters, from over 25 native species, thus creating a true encyclopedia of the deciduous forest. The event also welcomed 30 children of fellow volunteers, who during the planting took part in educational games aimed at instilling responsible behavior towards the environment.

“We are happy to team up once again with the Asociația Pădurea Copiilor (Children’s Forest Association) in a project dear to us, which represents and strengthens our mission to protect people and the environment. For over 25 years, we have been involved in actions that support individual and family well-being and we believe that investing in tree planting contributes not only to improving air quality, but also to improving the quality of life for future generations,” said Carmina Dragomir, CEO of Metropolitan Life.

The planting action was supported by the non-governmental organizations Arbor Day and the Children’s Forest Association, with the support of Ploiesti Local Council, Prahova and Putineiu Local Council, Giurgiu.
