What to do in Bucharest during spring’s first weekend

Spring has officially started despite the rainy weather outside, so it’s time to get out of the house and enjoy the brief reprieve from work the weekend offers. As always, there’s enough to do in Bucharest to keep the weekend fun.

This Saturday and Sunday, the Bounty Fair of Romanian design and handmade products is taking place at the Bucharest Casa Universitarilor. This will be a special edition organized for Women’s Day. Visitors will be able to search for the perfect gift to show “their gratitude towards the important women in their life” among the creations of sixty Romanian artists and artisans, according to the event’s Facebook page. Moreover, visitors will be able to participate in ten workshops where they will get the chance to personalize their gifts.

The “Dimitrie Gusti” National Village Museum is organizing a fair as well, the De Martisor. Targ cu talc (Fair with a Twist), which started on February 22 and will end on March 8. The event is part of the museum’s cultural project entitled Seasons and will have a selection of “martisoare” (trinkets traditionally gifted to women and girls on the first of March) on offer for visitors to choose from.

In terms of theatre, this weekend promises to be a busy one. Romantic Fools by Rich Orloff will be played at the Godot Café Theatre, a comedy that details “a war in which nobody suffers, but everyone dies laughing,” as detailed on their website.

Another comedy on this weekend is Anthony Michineau’s Make Space for Me, where “fate brings together Manuel and Camilla, two people with apparently nothing in common, which will lead to sparks appearing,” as shown on the Godot Café Theatre website.
