Ride-sharing company Uber has launched a subscription service called Ride Pass for its users in five US cities – Los Angeles, Austin, Denver, Miami and Orlando, the BBC reports.
The membership scheme allows passengers to avoid price surging at rush hour and other high-demand times, with fixed fare plans of USD 24.99 in Los Angeles and USD 14.99 in the other four cities. The Los Angeles fare package will eventually include e-bike and scooter access.
Uber says it plans to expand the service to other US cities next year, but no plans exist yet to introduce it in other countries.
The company hopes the new service will convince passengers that using Uber is more economical and make them give up their personal cars.
Product manager Dan Bilen said Ride Pass was a way to lock in consistent prices, on any ride, anywhere in a city, any time of day, for a monthly fee.
Uber estimates its users can save up to 15 percent a month on their current spending.
