Romania’s renewable energy quota slashed to 8.3 pct in 2017, according to government decision

In 2017, the mandatory renewable energy quota promoted through green certificates is of 8.3 percent of Romania’s gross final consumption, according to a Government decision adopted on Thursday.

The share for the next year was established by the executive based on the collaboration with the National Authority for Regulation in Energy (ANRE), so it won’t have a negative impact on the electricity bills of the final consumers.

In 2016, the quota stood at 12.15 percent and if it would have been maintained next year as well it would have seen the impact green certificates in the bill of the final consumers grow by RON 17/MWh, meaning by around 5 percent, according to computations ANRE.

The change was backed by the Competition Council and ANRE. Both the antitrust watchdog and the energy regulator issued favorable reports regarding the new quota.

This decision will be enforced after the approval of the emergency ordinance draft, by the new Government, regarding the change and completion of the renewable energy law no. 220/2008.
