Romania’s exports up by 13.6 pct and imports up by 17.4 pct in January 2017

Romania’s exports grew by 13.6 percent up to EUR 4.68 billion and imports climbed by 17.4 percent in January 2017, compared with January 2016, with the imports having a negative impact on the trade deficit, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The imports increased in January to EUR 5.28 billion. The trade deficit was EUR 602.2 million, a growth by 59 percent compared with January 2016, of EUR 379.7 million.

Romania exported in January 2017 merchandises in value of EUR 3.57 billion in EU, meaning 76.2 percent of the total and imported EUR 3.95 billion from the other 27 EU member states, meaning 74.7 percent of the overall imports.

Romania had a deficit in January in the EU trade, as the exports outside was worth EUR 1.11 billion, a growth by 21.3 percent compared with January 2016, exceeded by imports, in value of EUR 1.34 billion (37.7 percent).

The transport equipments had the highest share in the external trade in January, with 48.3 percent at export and 36.9 percent at import, followed by manufacturing products, with 33.2 percent and 30 percent at import.

The agri-food, beverages and tobacco represented 6.8 percent of the exports and 8.3 percent of the imports, while the chemical products covered 4.2 percent of the exports and 12.9 percent of the imports.

In 2016, FOB exports went up by 5.1 percent compared with 2015 up to EUR 57.39 billion.
