Romania’s draft budget for 2017, under debate in Parliament

Newsroom 06/02/2017 | 09:20

The members of the Chamber of Deputies and Senate will debate starting Monday the public budget for 2017, after the allocations for each ministry have been approved in the special Parliament committees during the weekend.

The MPs are going to establish today the time framework for the debates and voting of the new budget.

The debates come on the back of a political crisis, marked by massive street protests against the center-let government of Sorin Grindeanu.

This year’s governing program is based on an economic growth estimate of 5.2 percent and a deficit below 3 percent of GDP. Economists have warned that the government’s growth target might be too ambitious.
