Romania has exported approximately 14 million liters of wine, valued at EUR 24 million in 2015, according to datasets published by the Association of Wine Producers and Exporters (APEV Romania).
78 percent of the total volume of wine produced in Romania in 2015, equivalent of 11 million liters valued at EUR 17 million, were exported in the European markets. The remaining 22 percent (3 million liters costing EUR 7 million) were exported in states outside Europe.
The four biggest European export markets for local wine are Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands and Bulgaria. Outside the European area, China is the biggest importer of Romanian wine, followed by the USA, which imported 800.000 liters, and Canada, with 300.000 liters imported.
The best price per number of liters exported is offered by Finland, which pays EUR 5.63 per liter of Romanian wine and has imported 6,300 liters in 2015. Hungary pays EUR 5.41 per liter, followed by Luxembourg, which offers EUR 4.71 euro per liter.
The lowest price offered per liter of Romanian wine is offered by Slovakia with EUR 0.59 per liter, followed by Bulgaria with EUR 0.79 per liter offer.
“The effort made by the Romanian wine cellars to export are big. To get to significant sales outside the country, wine cellars have to actively participate in international fairs in Europe and Asia and intensely promote their products,” says Alina Iancu, founder of CrameRomania.ro and ReVino.ro.
According to official representatives, wine cellars in Recas, Oprisor and Halewood export approximately 50 percent of the total production, while S.E.R.V.E. exported 40 percent.
