A public consultation for available spectrum in the 800 MHz and 2600 MHz frequencies, which has not been awarded during the 2012 tender, is currently under way, announced the Romanian telecom watchdog ANCOM.

The spectrum will be awarded for mobile broadband communications services.

“We will offer those interested the opportunity to win valuable spectrum, which will allow them to provide on the Romanian market mobile communication services that are more and more in demand. The usage of mobile broadband internet is constantly going up, and revenues from providing these services have posted the most spectacular growth amounting to 45 percent in the first half of last year,” said Catalin Marinescu, president of ANCOM.

After the telecom tender in 2012, one block in the 800 MHz frequency and 8 blocks in the 2600 MHz frequency were not awarded.

The telecom watchdog has drafted a form to find out the opinion of the industry regarding the conditions for awarding the spectrum as well as the intentions of existing operators or potential new entrants on the market concerning the participation to a new tender for allocating the spectrum.

Interested parties can post comments to the queries in the form, which is published on the ANCOM website, until February 18 at the latest.
