Romania to have an 8 pct higher budget in the EU’s next multiannual financial framework

Romania will benefit from an 8 percent higher budget compared to its current one, as proposed by the European Commission, said today European Commissioner Corina Cretu.

She stressed the need for an agreement on the multiannual financial framework ahead of next year’s European Parliament elections.

”In the end, I managed to convince my colleagues in the European Commission that we have to go back to the Berlin formula which relies almost 80 percent on the gross domestic product per capita formula. So, poor countries – Bulgaria, Romania, Greece will have a 10 percent increase,” Cretu said.

According to Cretu, during the Romanian Presidency of the Council of EU, we have to join forces together with the European Parliament, and agree on the multiannual financial framework.
