Romanian authorities have formalized the intention on connecting the Romanian electricity market, with those of Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, part of the EU internal electricity market, which should be formed by 2014.
On December 14, the Board of Directors for the coupling project of the Czech, Slovakian and Hungarian markets has approved the Letter of Intent made by Transelectrica (the Romanian grid operator), OPCOM (the electricity market operator) and ANRE (the energy regulator).
The electricity bourses (OTE, OKTE, HUPX) and national regulators (ERU, URSO, MEH) in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary have already singed the memorandum of understanding on the creation of a common EU internal electricity market.
In the next period, talks between the four countries will revolve around the processes of integrating the electricity markets of these countries.
