Romania can be independent from the oil and gas perspective while it is the only country in EU that benefits of an integrated cycle from uranium mines to production of nuclear energy, said Daniela Lulache, CEO at Nuclearelectrica during the third day of the Foreign Investors Summit, organized by Business Review. However, she warns that Romania can’t be a regional hub as it doesn’t have the needed level of interconnection. But it can play a significant role in the Energetic Union project.

Speaking about the potential of the local energy market Artur Stratan, president of ROPEPCA said that Romania needs massive investments in both production and exploration fields. According to him, about EUR 8.5 billion have been invested in Romania in the two sectors in the past 12 years. Also Martin Zmelik, CEO at CEZ Romania Group said that there are a lot of opportunities in the distribution sector in terms of more complex solutions for customers. “But it is also important to provide more complex products in electricity sector. Our main directions are represented by solutions in distribution and new technologies around renewables,” he said.

Stratan of ROPEPCA emphasised that Romanian authorities must play a pro-active role as they need to be an active partner for dialogue with the players in energy sector. In addition, “Romania needs and a long term coherent and politically immune energy strategy based on a strong economic one,” added the ROPEPCA representative. He also emphasised that Romania has a significant potential for development in the hydrocarbons but warned that just 10 percent of the local sedimentation basins benefits of modern specific technology now.

From this perspective, Vodafone Romania offers its Machine to Machine (M2M) service that allows its customers to use intelligent devices that deliver information on a pre-set basis without human intervention and using their own network. “There are solutions that addresses the whole chain, from production of energy to the consumption and transportation. They can supervise the consumption in real time so that the consumption peaks can be easily identified and correlated with the level of production,” said Daniel Bobu, director, enterprise marketing, enterprise business unit at Vodafone Romania. He added that throughout its M2M solutions Vodafone aims to support companies increase their efficiency.
