Over 136,000 Romanians participated in the National Cleaning Day

On Saturday, the Romanians all over the country put on their gloves, took bags and participated at “Let`s Do It, Romania!”, the biggest mobilization of volunteers in the country, with the purpose of gathering waste from the nature. Since the first hours of the morning, hundreds of volunteers came to the registering points and the action ended around 15:00, when the waste collection partner firms started collecting the bags.

The first estimations show a number of over 136,000 volunteers that have gathered over 168,000 bags of waste on the National Cleaning Day “Let`s Do It, Romania!”. Organized for the fifth year in a row, the action became a tradition for the Romanians that are choosing to offer their time and energy for a cause in which they strongly believe in.

The top of the counties with the most active volunteers are present: Botosani (16,000 volunteers – 8,000 bags – intermediary counting), Maramures (12,000 volunteers – 10,780 bags), Vaslui (11,500 volunteers – 14,500 bags), Gorj (10,140 – 14,000 bags), Suceava (6,900 volunteers – 10,350 bags), Prahova (6,200 volunteers – 8,000 bags), Buzău (5,582 volunteers – 10,952 bags), Arad (5,042 volunteers – 6,212 bags).

The waste collected were: PETs, glass, aluminum cans, plastic plates and dishes, textiles, clothes and shoes, but also electronic waste.

If the youngest volunteer is three years old and came with his parents and learns how to respect the nature, the oldest volunteer is 80 years old and impressed the people around him through his involvement and dedication.

This year, Romania cleaned alongside the Republic of Moldova, coordinating also the activity from Chisinau. The activity happened in 9 parks in Chisinau and at the protest against the waste in the green spaces included 3,522 volunteers.

“We want that, through with initiative, attract the attention of the national and local authorities that Romania needs an urgent reform for the collection of what we thrown away, otherwise we risk to suffocate Romania in waste!”, said Andrei Cosuleanu, Executive Director of “Let`s Do It, Romania!“.
