Only 50,000 new positions were created in Romania in the past year

In spite of economic growth posted last year, Romania saw only 50,000 new open positions being created and the unemployment exceeded 7 percent.

The companies hired 35,000 new people in January 2014,and there were 4.36 million people working at the start of the year, according to data published by The National Institute of Statistics, quoted by Ziarul Financiar.

The economy lost 400,000 positions during the crisis, but companies were cautious as to making new employments.

There is a decline in the number of new employments as a whole, and companies that are hiring are mostly looking for experts, which does not represent high-volume recruitment, while most of those looking for a job have worked in production, a field where not only employments are not made anymore, but quite the contrary, people are laid off,” said Oana Datki, managing partner for South-Eastern Europe of HR firm Consulteam, according to Ziarul Financiar.

She added that most new positions are open in IT and outsourcing, and companies tend to distribute the tasks between the remaining team after a member of the team leaves the company.

Business Review will organize on April 28 an event that explores the latest developments on the Romanian human resources market. Find out what are the challenges expecting the Romanian authorities and employers this year at Focus on Employment and HR!
