Over 80 percent of Romanians have not yet installed a home security system, according to a survey commissioned by Atu Tech, the largest online security systems store in Romania by turnover. 4 out of 10 Romanians lacking a security system take into account the purchase and installation of one in the next 12 months.

Nearly 52 percent of those planning to install a home security system live in apartment blocks, 45 percent own an individual home, the rest want to install in holiday homes.

“Romanians prefer complex security systems, including alarms, video surveillance, smoke and gas detectors, intercoms, automation, access control, etc. because they understood the necessity and the advantages they offer. Last year, we saw a significant increase in demand for security systems, which helped increase Atu Tech’s sales to USD 7.5 million,” says Sorin Felea, Atu Tech director.

According to the survey, over 40 percent of Romanians believe it is very important for a security system to be equipped with both alarm and video monitoring and, in addition, to include smoke and gas detectors, intercoms, automation, access control. 34 percent of respondents believe that it is sufficient for a home security system to be composed of an alarm system and a video surveillance system.

The most useful benefits of a security system mentioned by respondents to the Atu survey are: providing a sense of comfort and safety (33 percent), surveilling the house when no one is home (31 percent), and security against burglars (30 percent). In this context, 7 out of 10 Romanians believe that the existence of a home surveillance system discourages burglars.

Last year, more than 23,000 home theft crimes were reported, according to the Police, and in the first five months of this year 9,210 crimes of theft were reported. The analysis of house theft reveals a multitude of operating modes used by criminals for committing such acts. Also, from the data analyzed, one of four thefts is possible due to the negligence of the owners to adopt simple but effective self-protection measures, such as installing a security system.

According to the survey, more than a third of Romanians would be willing to pay between RON 400 and 600 for home security systems, almost a quarter (24 percent) between RON 800 and 1,000 and 23 percent would allocate over RON 1,000 to secure the dwelling.

“The average value of orders placed by Atu Tech in the online store A2T.ro is RON 1,000, customers prefer more complex security systems with state-of-the-art technologies with user-friendly software and applications, which allow for a configuration fast. The current trend is towards the acquisition of Smart Home products and systems, so alarm system manufacturers have begun to integrate smart features into professional alarms, “says Felea.

The same tendency to integrate new functions and new technologies but without making price changes, is also found in the video surveillance systems and, ultimately, these types of products are becoming more accessible. The best-selling products in the online store A2T.ro are video surveillance systems, alarm systems and complete gates automation kits.

Atu Tech security specialists recommend that installation be done by authorized installers. The company has a network of over 600 partners, through which it can offer such services nationwide.

The poll “How Romanians prefer to secure their homes” was conducted in the online environment at the request of Atu Tec, from 10-15 July 2019, on a sample of 1,856 respondents, aged over 18 , from urban and rural areas. The poll error margin is +/- 2%.

Atu Tech (A2T.ro) is the largest online security systems store in Romania, according to turnover. The company, set up in 2011, has its headquarters in Sibiu and registered a turnover of USD 7.5 million last year.
