The chief economist and head of strategy and research division at BCR, Lucian Anghel, was appointed president of the Directorate and general director of BCR Pensii, the pensions arm of the Austrian lender. He is pending confirmation from the private pension regulator.

BCR fully owns the RON 185 million share capital of BCR Pensii, which was set up in 2007. It manages a private and facultative pension fund.

“Private pension funds are one of the few internal financing solutions available in the Romanian economy. Ensuring the financing slows the development of the economy, including jobs maintenance and creation,” said Anghel.

Anghel was elected this January as board president of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

He holds a PhD in economy and is a graduate of the Faculty of Economic Cybernetics, Statistics and Economic IT within the Academy of Economical Studies (AES). He attended post-university courses at Georgetown University, Washington USA, as well as an executive development program organized by HEC Montreal Canada. He is a member of the teaching staff at SNSPA and AES.

Anghel stared his banking career in 1996, making his way up as counselor to BCR’s president, analyst and deputy treasurer. He has been chief economist and executive director of BCR’s Strategy and Research Division since 2007. In addition, he was a member of the board of director of Erste Asset Management and BCR Asset Management for 5 years.
