Prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) have taken into custody Madalin Dumitru, manager for the Infrastructure Department within Bucharest’s Town Hall.

Madalin Dumitru is accused of preferential treatment, awarding certain firms contracts, between 2011 and 2014.

According to judiciary sources, Madalin Dumitru will be detained for 24 hours.

On May 28, DNA prosecutors made 20 searches in Bucharest and Ilfov county, at public institutions like the Bucharest Town Hall and company headquarters. The investigators collected documents from Dumitru’s office and his residence. The official is suspected of  giving preferential treatment to certain companies. His wife is allegedly involved in the case, alongside other “public workers responsible with state-financed contracts”.
