Enel’s operations in Romania are set to be led by Georgios Stassis following country manager Toni Volpe’s stepping down from his current role to pursue a management position outside the Enel Group, a company press release informs.

Stassis is currently Enel Green Power’s head of Eastern Europe & Egypt, being responsible for operations in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Egypt. He has been with the group since 2007.

Prior to joining Enel, Georgios Stassis was executive director of strategic projects & procurement and a member of the executive/management committee of Tellas Telecom, an alternative telecom operator in Greece. He is affiliated with a number of non-profit organizations, including as a board member of several renewable energy institutions and associations in the Balkans and Middle East.

Stassis holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s Degrees in Construction Management from Kingston University in the United Kingdom.

Toni Volpe has worked with Enel for 12 years, during which time he covered a range of executive positions within the group.

Enel operates in over 30 countries across four continents, producing energy through a net installed capacity of nearly 89 GW and distributing electricity and gas through a network of approximately 1.9 million kilometers.  Active on the Romanian market since 2005, Enel is currently the country’s largest private investor in energy, with operations in power distribution and supply as well as renewable energy production. The company has more than 3,100 employees and provides services to 2.7 million customers in three key areas of the country: Muntenia Sud (including Bucharest), Banat and Dobrogea, accounting for one third of Romania’s electricity distribution market.
