Enel to install over 150,000 smart meters in Romania this year

Italian utility Enel will install over 150,000 smart meters in Romania this year, adding to the 140,000 units it already rolled out for its customers in 2016.

The smart meters will be installed in Muntenia Sud, Dobrogea and Banat, the areas in which Enel has its distribution operations.

“The digital transformation brought by smart meters bring place the consumer in the center of our attention, offering customers an improved experience: data access to real time consumption, the option to monitor energy consumption, billing based on exact consumption and monitorization of service operations and remote restart of service in case of faults,” said Georgios Stassis, country manager Enel Romania.

E-Distribute Muntenia will install around 70,000 smart meters in key areas from Bucharest and Ilfov County. E-Distributie Dobrogea will install another 40,000 smart meters in urban and rural areas, similar to E-Distributie Banat.

This year, Enel will invest EUR 151.5 million in Romania, out of which EUR 139 million will go for distribution operations. Next year, the planned investments will reach EUR 178 million.

In Bucharest, the areas that will get smart meters this year are the Old Town Center, Victoriei, Militari, Unirii, Vitan, Mihai Bravu and Berceni. In Ilfov, Enel will invest smart meters in Buftea, Mogosoaia and Chitila localities.

Enel has over 2.8 million customers in Romania. The company employs over 3,100 people locally.
