Electricity consumption of Romania’s households down 9.2 pct in Q1 2018

Romania’a household consumers used 9.2 percent less electricity in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period of 2017, for a total of 2.9 billion kWh, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The figure for the final consumption of electric energy, however, was 2.7 percent higher than in Q1 2017, with a total of 14.6 billion kWh. Public lighting consumption also decreased by 7 percent. The economy, however, used up 6.3 percent more electricity in Q1 2018 than in the same period of the previous year.

According to INS, main primary energy resources increased by 5.4 percent, to 8.93 million toe (tonne of oil equivalent) and electric energy resources by 0.5 percent, to 18.55 billion kWh, compared to Q1 2017.

Thermal power station production decreased by 1 percent, while hydroelectric power stations production increased by 17.7 percent. Nuclear power station production decreased by 1.8 percent.

The energy production by wind power stations in Q1 2018 decreased by 10.2 percent since Q1 2017, and photovoltaic power stations produced 25.2 percent less energy in the same period.

Own technological consumption of electric energy in networks and stations increased by 2.8 percent.
