Electrica and OMV Petrom launch the first rapid charging station for electric cars as part of a network of distribution of fuel. As part of this pilot project, rapid charging stations for electric cars will be installed in Bucharest in four OMV fuel distribution stations at the central headquarters of OMV Petrom and Electrica.

So far, in Romania there were small steps in the field of electro-mobility. That is why we, Electrica and OMV Petrom, joined efforts to support the development of rapid charging infrastructure of electric cars, because we are worried about the environment and, at the same time, Romania’s sustainable development. We believe this is only the beginning of what we, at Electrica, name the „Green Highway” of Romania, Catalin Stancu, Electrică CEO said.

The transformations and trends in the energy and mobility field are topics we follow closely. Even if the electric car market is still at the beginning, and in the next decade oil will continue to be the main source of energy at a global level, we want to adopt new technologies to sustain the continuous development of the range of products and services we offer,” Adrian Nicolaescu, retail manager with OMV Petrom.

In each of the four OMV stations in Bucharest, as well as at the Electrica and OMV Petrom headquarters will be installed rapid charging stations for electric cars, with a maximum capacity of 50kWh. The station can charge 80 percent of a 100 percent electric car in approximately 20 minutes, compared to the regular charging time of 7 to 8 hours. According to the Association of Car Producers and Importers, in 2015 the number of electric and hybrid cars doubled to 495, compared to 236 in 2014.

Electrica is the leader of the electricity distribution and distribution market. OMV Petrom is the biggest producer of oil and gas in South-East Europe.
