Marian V. Popa, 59, took the helm at the DB Global Technology, the Bucharest-based technology center of Germany’s Deutsche Bank, which is set to be inaugurated in the first half of this year. He is tasked with developing the center, which is the bank’s fourth globally.
The lender has started recruiting software specialists at the end of 2013 and should reach 100 employees by the middle of this year. The number of employees is set to climb to 500 by the end of 2016.
Popa has worked for over 30 years for IT&C companies in Romania and Europe. He was CEO of Endava CEE between 2004 and 2012, and managed the expansion of the company from 40 to 800 employees, working in four headquarters in the CEE. Popa is a graduate of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies and took additional senior management trainings in the UK, Belgium and France.
Deutsche Bank has been present in Romania since 1998, providing corporate and private banking services. The bank was involved in key financial transactions in Romania, in the energy, transport and social housing sectors. IT was lead manager of Romania’s bond issues in September and October last year.
