Crypto-trading profit to be taxed 10 percent as “income from other sources”

One year after the wave of high earnings from the cryptocoins market, legislators have made a decision on how to tax this income. Law 30/2019 to approve the Government Ordinance 25/29.03.2018, sets that earnings from cryptocurrency trading will be taxed as “income from other sources”.

This means that the profit from crypto will be taxed by 10 percent, just as any other income. That is if there is a profit to be reported and if the payer reports it in the Single Tax Form.

According to the law, all earnings, including those from cryptocurrency trading, must be reported in the Single Tax Form that must be completed by March 15. The contributor should state the investments made in cryptocurrency and if there is a profit, it should be reported for the 10 percent tax.

If the earnings in a transaction are less than 200 lei, they do not need to be reported. However, if earnings exceed 600 lei per year, they will be taxed.
