Call for Leaders – 3Q is a new category where Business Review features our 3 questions with some of Romania’s top business professionals, bringing a positive, insightful, or otherwise constructive view of their markets in the context of the current crisis.

Current conversation: Dennis Raabe, Head of BOSCH Engineering Center Cluj

What measures have you taken to protect your business during this period?

Let’s start with the good news: no one at Bosch Engineering Center Cluj has been infected by the Coronavirus, and at the same time, we have managed to run our business activities with great performance even working from home or within changed working conditions. During the last two months, we continued to deliver great results and ensured the highest quality standards for our products. I am very proud and thankful to my entire team, that in such hard times, none of our partners could feel any change in our service or team performance.

From the very first days of the pandemic, we have introduced safety measures to protect our associates against Covid-19 by assuring nearly 100% Home Office days or safe working conditions for colleagues working in the laboratories. Our protection measures allowed them to continue their activity safely – some of them coming to the office on a daily basis. We doubled our stocks of protective equipment and disinfectants, we increased the cleaning efforts including disinfection and implemented specific measures for social distancing. Moreover, we have kept our associates informed about national regulations and Bosch-level safety measures via sharing daily updates. At the moment, we need to continue with the right balance between personal safety and fulfilling our responsibilities on the other hand.

As for the future, we must continue to follow the guidelines to reduce the risk of infections and keep ourselves safe while the entire team is gradually coming back to the office. There are great many lessons to learn from this crisis, but the most important one, I believe, is that being responsible and that we will make it together through these uncertain times and overcome this demanding period.

What is your advice for business leaders for this crisis?

We at Bosch trust each other and we act responsibly, and I can only suggest the same thing for other companies too. The future ahead of us will be tough, but standing together, sharing best practices and helping each other is the only way to overcome this crisis.

Protecting our associates and keeping the business running in parallel is not easy. However, we must put the protection of our teams first, so that they remain healthy and keep delivering great results, thus protecting our business.

What is the most positive business news you have read lately and want to share it?

The good news is that we can see the first signs of success in the fight against the pandemic. For example, in China, there are signs of industrial recovery: industrial production rose by 3.9% in April compared to last year. Moreover, Bosch has started the fully automated production of facemasks with more than 10 million masks to be produced by the end of June. The masks will be used to protect Bosch associates worldwide. The other great news is that Vivalytic, the fully automated rapid test for COVID-19 from Bosch, is being already used at several Bosch locations to help contain the pandemic as quickly as possible.

We shall fight this pandemic together – this is the greatest possible news!
