Call for Leaders – 3Q is a new category where Business Review features our 3 questions with some of Romania’s top business professionals, bringing a positive, insightful, or otherwise constructive view of their markets in the context of the current crisis.

Current conversation: Cristian Sălceanu, Country Manager Bolt România

What are the measures you have taken for your business during this period?

The past two months have been very busy for Bolt in Romania. As the lockdown reduced the number of rides, we looked for alternative sources of income for our partner drivers, as well as for ways to enable us to move on once the lockdown was lifted.

We launched Bolt Business Delivery and Bolt Delivery, two services that enabled small companies and individuals respectively to deliver goods to their clients or their loved ones by using Bolt drivers. Then we launched Bolt Protect, encouraging our drivers to install protection separators between the passenger area and the driver area in the cars. Most importantly, we launched Bolt Food in the last week of May, a service we know is very important for the market, as many people still work from home and still have their food delivered every day.

What’s your advice for business leaders regarding this crisis?

Be lucid and realistic about this crisis and its aftermath. Many things will not be like they used to be in the past, since the lockdown and the health concerns have already lasted long enough to exert changes in the patterns of behaviour. Our best chance is to be agile and respond quickly to the new realities, once we made sure we understood them and we identified correctly the role our companies can play in them.

Keeping our companies afloat will enable us to keep our people employed and secure, in a shape shifting environment.

What’s the most positive business news you’ve read recently and want to share?

One that says that the Romanian economy is much better prepared to face a crisis than it was back in 2008. I can only hope the figures are right.
