14th November- World Diabetes Day!

If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody – Chinese proverb.

Children are never too young to learn the value and joy of helping others. As we know, children learn by watching their parents and their teachers. We can model compassion and generosity to raise caring children.

The 14th of November is World Diabetes Day and this year for the first time King’s Oak School decided to get involved and help increase awareness about diabetes. November 14th is a significant date in the diabetes calendar because it marks the birthday of the man who co-discovered insulin, Frederick Banting. Banting discovered insulin in 1922, alongside Charles Best.

Children from King’s Oak British International School worked really hard in order to create amazing blue paintings, unique blue jewellery and jewellery boxes and organised a silent auction in order to help children with diabetes. The Blue, healthy bake sale was a real success as well, a great opportunity to demonstrate that life can be sweet without sugar. The children’s remarkable work was displayed at the annual diabetes conference called ‘Noi si Diabetul’ and all proceeds were donated to a charity that helps children with diabetes. Thank you very much everyone.
