Romanian brewers remind drivers that there are safe alternatives to driving, one of them being non-alcoholic beer.

„Promoting a responsible alcohol consumption is a constant concern for Brewers of Romania Association since its establishment. Together with our traditional partner, the Romanian Police, we are permanently interested in informing consumers about the situations in which there may be risks associated with alcohol consumption, as is the case of drivers who decide to drive after drinking. That is why, on the International Beer Day, we smash a non-alcoholic beer with drivers, for safer roads, to remember that, no matter where we want to go, our lives and those of our loved ones are the most important destinations. Thus, we are able to enjoy the pleasant moments spent together over a beer, regardless of the situation we are in, as car drivers or not. ” says Julia Leferman, General Manager of the Brewers of Romania Association.

„The Road Directorate within the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police draws attention to the danger created for road safety by drivers under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol consumption represents an important risk for the driver, passengers and other road users, which exponentially increases the possibility of getting involved in a car accident. The traffic police has zero tolerance for drinking and driving behaviour and congratulates the Brewers of Romania Association for initiating the “No Alcohol when driving” campaign. We are totally supporting them in carrying out activities that increase the road safety”, declares Chief Police Commissioner George Grigore, Director of the Road Directorate.

Over the years, the road accidents caused by alcohol consumption when driving problem has been addressed through several awareness initiatives. Although each of us knows that it is dangerous to drive after alcohol intake, still, in a moment of impulse, decisions can be made that lead us to risky situations.

Especially in the context we are in now, after many months of restrictions caused by the Covid19 pandemic, when people want to recover lost time and not miss experiences with loved ones this summer, they may tend to be less careful and forget the golden rule: No alcohol when driving! That is why, through this campaign, the Brewers of Romania and their partners emphasize the message of caution and prevention for drivers.

The campaign includes a traffic activation component that will take place on Friday, August 6, 2021, International Beer Day, on the A2 highway, at the tax station in Fetești, where police and representatives of the Brewers of Romania Association send an warning message to drivers and passengers in traffic.

The campaign will also be implemented in social media, in Petrom stations, on Kiss FM, Rock FM, Magic FM and National FM radio stations and through several informative materials that will be disseminated during August 2021. Also, the actor Radu Vâlcan supports the campaign messages through a video.

In the first 6 months of 2021, due to drinking when driving, 87 serious road accidents occurred, as a result of which 24 people died and another 71 were seriously injured. By comparison, in the same period of 2020, there were 135 serious road accidents, with 26 people dead and 139 seriously injured, and in 2019, 133 serious road accidents, in which 31 people died and 132 people suffered serious injuries.

Launched in 2008, the annual campaign under the title “No alcohol when driving” is a long-term driver responsibility initiative of the Brewers of Romania Association, carried out with the support of the Road Directorate within the General Inspectorate of Romanian Police and Petrom.

The Brewers of Romania Association has aimed from the beginning to promote moderate and responsible consumption. Thus, launching a campaign aiming to inform drivers about the dangers they are exposed to when driving under the influence of alcohol, demonstrates once again the social commitment of the local beer industry.
