Black Friday remains a benchmark for the evolution of the e-commerce market in Romania, an event for which Romanian merchants have prepared a wide range of significant discounts, which are available only at this time of year.

“Last year, at the peak moment, we recorded almost 5,000 transactions per minute and we are ready to meet the growing volume of online transactions also this year. PayU recommends buyers that in order to benefit from a simple and fast purchase process, without having to fill in the card data for each new transaction, to save their card in the PayU system. At the same time, by saving the card, buyers can benefit from a quick refund, within 30 minutes of return confirmation”, added Elena Gheorghe, Country Manager PayU Romania.

As in the previous year, the banks issuing cards in installments prepared, together with the merchants, special campaigns with extended installments, which would facilitate the purchases with high values.

The buying behavior of Romanians on Black Friday

The change in the buying behavior of Romanians, through massive migration to online, has been indisputably driven by the pandemic, but maintaining the upward trend of online transactions is due to increased consumer confidence in online payments, as a consequence of joint efforts of payment operators and merchants, which have managed to retain online shoppers through innovative products and streamlined processes.

PayU estimates show that the value of the shopping cart paid in installments will be 60% higher than the value of average shopping cart, while one-click payments will represent approximately 65% of the transactions paid online for the first day of Black Friday, the increase being 35% compared to the previous edition.

Favorite product categories on Black Friday

“Some of the very strongly represented categories in PayU’s portfolio are those for which we expect to generate the most Black Friday transactions, and this has been confirmed to us since last year, when the highest value of online purchases came from IT&C, home & deco, fashion, perfumes & beauty, books, games and toys. We expect this trend to continue”, ended Elena Gheorghe.

Merchants in the PayU portfolio that will participate in this year’s edition of Black Friday include Altex, Elefant, eMAG, FashionDays, Flanco, F64, iStyle, Jysk, PC Garage, Vivre and others.
